Abstract

A valve assembly includes a valve housing with a recess that is sized to retain a component inserted into the recess. The component has an angled rim configured to dig into the valve housing at the recess.

Claims

1. A valve assembly comprising:

a valve housing having a cylindrical recess;

a metal disc sized to fit into the recess and to be retained in the cylindrical recess only by the valve housing so that the metal disc is exposed;

wherein the cylindrical recess is exposed at a surface of the housing; and

wherein the metal disc has an angled rim configured to dig into the valve housing at the cylindrical recess so that the metal disc is retained to the valve housing.

2. The valve assembly of claim 1, wherein the angled rim has a variegated edge.

3. The valve assembly of claim 2, wherein the disc is generally circular;

and wherein the variegated edge of the angled rim extends along the entire perimeter of the disc.

4. The valve assembly of claim 2, wherein the variegated edge extends into the housing beyond the recess.

5. The valve assembly of claim 1, wherein the cylindrical recess opens only at an outer surface of the housing so that the metal disc is entirely within the housing below the outer surface.

6. The valve assembly of claim 5, wherein the angled rim extends at least partially toward the outer surface of the housing.

7. The valve assembly of claim 5, wherein the angled rim has a variegated edge;

and wherein no portion of the variegated edge is exposed.

8. The valve assembly of claim 1, wherein the valve housing is a one-piece, injection-molded valve housing.

9. An assembly comprising:

a fuel tank having a wall with an inner surface partially defining an interior space;

a valve assembly including;

a component;

a valve housing having a cylindrical recess sufficiently sized to contain the component, and having an opening at which the component is exposed when the component is contained in the cylindrical recess;

wherein the valve assembly is mounted to the inner surface of the wall of the fuel tank with the opening facing the inner surface, thereby enabling the component to be detected from outside of the fuel tank;

wherein the component has an angled rim; and

wherein the valve housing interferes with the angled rim at the cylindrical recess so that the component is retained to the valve housing.

10. The assembly of claim 9, wherein the angled rim has a variegated edge.

11. The assembly of claim 10, wherein the disc is generally circular;

and

wherein the variegated edge of the angled rim extends along the entire perimeter of the disc.

12. The assembly of claim 10, wherein the variegated edge extends into the housing beyond the cylindrical recess.

13. The assembly of claim 9, wherein the cylindrical recess opens only at an outer surface of the housing so that the component is entirely within the housing below the outer surface and an exposed portion of the component faces the inner surface of the fuel tank.

14. The assembly of claim 9, wherein the angled rim extends at least partially toward the outer surface of the housing.

15. The assembly of claim 9, wherein the angled rim has a variegated edge;

and wherein no portion of the variegated edge is exposed.

16. The assembly of claim 9, wherein the valve housing is a one-piece, injection-molded valve housing.

17. A valve assembly comprising:

a valve housing having a generally flat outer surface and having a recess that extends into the valve housing from the generally flat outer surface;

a disc sized to fit into the recess and to be retained in the recess only by the valve housing so that the disc is exposed; and

wherein the disc has a generally flat center portion surrounded by an angled rim that is configured to dig into the valve housing in the recess below the generally flat outer surface so that the disc is retained to the valve housing and only the generally flat center portion is exposed in the recess.

18. The valve assembly of claim 17, wherein the angled rim extends at least partially toward the outer surface of the housing.

19. The valve assembly of claim 17, wherein the angled rim has a variegated edge;

wherein the disc is generally circular; and

wherein the variegated edge of the angled rim extends along the entire perimeter of the disc.

20. The valve assembly of claim 17, wherein the valve housing is a one-piece, injection-molded valve housing.
