1. A system, comprising:

  • an analyte sensor for transcutaneous placement under a skin layer and in fluid contact with an interstitial fluid to monitor an analyte level;

    a housing for placement on a skin surface, the housing including sensor electronics disposed within the housing and electrically coupled via electrical contacts with the analyte sensor, the sensor electronics including;

    a sensor circuit configured to obtain signals from the analyte sensor;

    a measurement circuit including a current to frequency converter configured to convert the sensor circuit signals obtained by the sensor circuit to a data format for use by digital logic circuits;

    a processing circuit including an application specific integrated circuit operatively coupled to the measurement circuit to evaluate converted data for transmission, wherein the processing circuit is configured to reduce noise or errors in a data stream from the measurement circuit; and

    a receiver configured to receive a data transmission from the sensor electronics, wherein when the receiver has not been activated for a predetermined period of time, the receiver is configured to receive the data transmission from the sensor electronics but not to display the data related to analyte concentration.
