1. An audio system for use in a listening area comprising a plurality of listening spaces, the audio system having a plurality of audio channels, the audio system comprising:

  • a processor configured to process incoming audio signals into a plurality of audio channels;

    a first acoustic radiation device, positioned inside said listening area and outside and in front of said plurality of listening spaces, for radiating first sound waves corresponding to a first of said plurality of audio channels; and

    a second acoustic radiation device, positioned in a location within a first of said plurality of listening spaces, the second acoustic radiation device coupled to a seat in the first listening space such that the second acoustic radiation device is positioned close to and to the rear of the head of a first listener when seated in the seat, for radiating second sound waves corresponding to a second of said plurality of audio channels and third sound waves corresponding to a third of said plurality of audio channels; and

    a third acoustic radiation device, positioned in a location within the first listening space the third acoustic radiation device coupled to the seat such that the third acoustic radiation device is positioned close to and to the rear of the head of the first listener when seated in the seat, for radiating fourth sound waves corresponding to the second audio channel and fifth sound waves corresponding to the third audio channel;

    wherein the processor is configured to apply a head-related transfer function to the incoming audio signals to produce the signals corresponding to the second and third audio channels, and the processor is further configured to process the second and third audio channels such that the fourth sound waves destructively interfere with the second sound waves in the vicinity of a right ear of the first listener, and the third sound waves destructively interfere with the fifth sound waves in the vicinity of the left ear of the first listener.
