1. A method of using a signal processor to identify a mechanical condition of a machine after receiving signals describing an operation of the machine from a sensor device;

  • said method comprising;

    having the signal processor receive the signals describing the operation of the machine;

    said signals comprising characteristic signals and uncharacteristic signals;

    said characteristic signals comprising information describing a steady state operation of the machine, and information describing interruptions of the operation of the machine, and information describing variations of the operation of the machine; and

    said uncharacteristic signals comprising information describing the mechanical condition of said machine;

    having the signal processor make statistically significant measurements on the signals;

    have the signal processor the signal to detect an interruption to said steady state of the machine;

    upon detecting the interruption, for a pre-determined time having the signal processor exclude said information describing interruptions of the operation of the machine and said information describing variations of the operation of the machine from said signals; and

    having the signal processor identify said uncharacteristic signals and identify the mechanical condition of the machine.
