1. A surgical access device, comprising:

  • a wound retractor having a sleeve with a distal end and a proximal end, the distal end of the sleeve attached to a distal ring for insertion through an incision and configured to be maintained internally relative to a body cavity during use, the proximal end of the sleeve attached to a proximal ring that is configured to be maintained externally relative to the body cavity during use, the proximal ring being rollable so as to shorten a longitudinal length of the sleeve to thereby cause the sleeve to retract tissue that forms the incision; and

a flexible port having an outer surface, the flexible port defining at least one opening therethrough for sealed reception of a surgical object, wherein the flexible port is configured to be compressed by a compressive force into a compressed condition in which the flexible port may be inserted into the retracted incision, and when the compressive force is removed, the flexible port expands such that the outer surface of the flexible port presses against and forms a seal with the tissue that forms the incision, the sleeve of the wound retractor being sandwiched between the outer surface of the flexible port and the tissue, the flexible port including proximal and distal ends, the proximal end of the flexible port having an upper lip and the distal end of the flexible port having a lower lip, the upper lip positionable above an upper surface of the tissue and the lower lip positionable below a lower surface of the tissue such that the proximal and distal ends of the flexible port are positionable between the proximal and distal ends of the sleeve, wherein the flexible port is maintained between the proximal and distal ends of the sleeve by a biasing force exerted by the flexible port on the sleeve.
