Percutaneous retrievable vascular filter
First Claim
1. A filter component having a first end, a second end, and a longitudinal axis extending between the first and second ends, the filter component comprising:
- a first set of radially expanding legs, each leg of the first set of legs coupled to and extending continuously away from the first end of the filter component along a longitudinal direction toward the second end of the filter component, wherein each leg of the first set of legs is coupled to the second end of the filter component, and each leg of the first set of legs comprising an intermediate portion defined as the portion of each leg of the first set of legs with the greatest radial displacement from the longitudinal axis and wherein segments of each leg of the first set of legs located on both sides of the intermediate portion of each leg of the first set of legs extend from the intermediate portion of each leg of the first set of legs toward the longitudinal axis; and
a second set of radially expanding legs, each leg of the second set of legs coupled to the second end of the filter component, and each leg of the second set of legs comprising an intermediate portion defined as the portion of each leg of the second set of legs with the greatest radial displacement from the longitudinal axis and wherein segments of each leg of the second set of legs located on both sides of the intermediate portion of each leg of the second set of legs extend from the intermediate portion of each leg of the second set of legs toward the longitudinal axis;
wherein the intermediate portions of the first set of legs are displaced a distance along the longitudinal axis of the filter component from the intermediate portions of the second set of legs andwherein the first end of the filter component defines a proximal-most portion of the filter component and the second end of the filter component defines a distal-most portion of the filter component.

Abstract
Retrievable vena cava filters for the temporary or permanent prevention of Pulmonary embolism (PE) are disclosed. A filter in accordance with the present invention has a tube-within-tube structure with overlapping semi-spheres. The semi-spheres comprise a plurality of expandable legs. The first tube may have a first set of expandable legs and a plurality of slots allowing for deployment of a second or third set of expandable legs on the second tube. The filter of the present invention may be retrieved by a catheter and snare. The third set of expandable legs conveys the vector force from the closing of the first set to the second set to cause it to collapse.
