1. A pixel sensor, comprising:

  • a plurality of light conversion regions, each light conversion region having dopants disposed in the respective light conversion region according to a first dopant profile, the respective light conversion region having a first potential barrier based on the first dopant profile, the first potential barrier having a first height;

    a plurality of charge carrier blocking regions, each one of the plurality of charge carrier blocking regions operatively coupled and adjacent to one of the plurality of light conversion regions, each charge carrier blocking region having dopants disposed in the respective charge carrier blocking region according to a second dopant profile, the adjacent light conversion region having a second potential barrier opposite the first potential barrier, the second potential barrier having a second height based on the second dopant profile, the second height being greater than the first height;

    a plurality of charge removal regions, each charge removal region having a structure to trap charge carriers in conjunction with an arrangement of the structure with a respective charge carrier blocking region of the plurality of charge carrier blocking regions, the structure arranged to operatively transfer the charge carriers to at least one potential well with an energy above a specified threshold potential.
