Customer owned telephone numbers
First Claim
1. A system for routing a call to a customer-owned telephone number, the system comprising:
- a host switch in a voice over internet protocol (“
VoIP”
) network communicably coupled with a plurality of remote switches and a public switched telephone network (“
PSTN”
), wherein each of the plurality of remote switches is located on a remote network distinct from the VoIP network and the PSTN, and wherein the host switch is operable to receive a call from the PSTN having signaling including a location routing number (“
LRN”
) field and a called party number field; and
a database communicably coupled to the host switch to identify a target remote switch of the plurality of remote switches that is associated with at least a portion of the LRN field, wherein the database is a LRN/telephone number (“
TN”
) database within the VoIP network, and wherein the LRN/TN database identifies the target remote switch that corresponds with at least a portion of the LRN field;
wherein the host switch is configured to send the call to the target remote switch based on the identification by the database.

Abstract
According to various embodiments of the present invention, systems and methods for routing telephone calls from host switch to remote switch in a Voice Over Internet Protocol (“VoIP”) network. In one embodiment, a system includes a host switch in a voice over internet protocol (“VoIP”) network communicably coupled with a plurality of remote switches and a public switched telephone network (“PSTN”), the host switch to receive a call from the PSTN having signaling including a location routing number (“LRN”) field, and a database communicably coupled to the host switch to identify a target remote switch of the plurality of remote switches that is associated with at least a portion of the LRN field. In addition, the host switch is to send the call to the target remote switch based on the identification by the database. Other embodiments are also disclosed.

-
providing a voice over internet protocol (“
VoIP”
) network communicably coupled with a public switched telephone network (“
PSTN”
) and a plurality of remote switches, wherein each of the plurality of remote switches is located a remote network distinct from the VoIP network and the PSTN;receiving a call from the PSTN having signaling including a called party number field and a location routing number (“
LRN”
) field;determining whether a called party number of the signaling has been Local Number Portability (“
LNP”
) dipped, and if not, querying a LNP database with the called party number to identify a LRN for the LRN field associated with the called party number;identifying a target remote switch of the plurality of remote switches that is associated with at least a portion of the LRN field, wherein the identifying the target remote switch further comprises querying an LRN/telephone number (“
TN”
) database within the VoIP network to identify the target remote switch that corresponds with at least a portion of the LRN field; andsending the call to the target remote switch based on the identification. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8)

9. An article of manufacture comprising:
-
a computer readable medium including data that, when accessed by a computer communicably coupled with a voice over internet protocol (“
VoIP”
) network that is communicably coupled with a public switched telephone network (“
