1. A composite ophthalmic lens product, comprising:

  • a first plastic layer comprising a first material having a first index of refraction; and

a second plastic layer comprising a second material different from the first material and having a second index of refraction different than the first index of refraction, wherein, the first layer is in optical communication with at least a portion of the second layer, and the first layer and the second layer are configured to contribute to an optical power of a finished lens formed at least partially from the composite lens product, the first layer comprises a first thickness of approximately 1-1.5 mm,the second layer comprises a second thickness that is less than the first thickness, the lens product is configured to provide an ophthalmic optical correction to a user, wherein the first index of refraction is in a range of approximately 1.50 to 1.53 and the second index of refraction is in a range of approximately 1.60 to 1.67, andwherein the second layer includes a diffractive element.
