1. A golf club head comprising a face and a body portion, the face comprising:
- an outer layer at least partially formed from a titanium material having a density of from about 4.0 g/cm3 to about 5.00 g/cm3 and having a plurality of male fasteners projecting from an inner surface thereof;
a lightweight layer penetrated by the plurality of male fasteners and having a thickness of greater than about 0.2 mm and less than about 2.0 mm and at least partially formed from a composite material having a density of 1.70 g/cm3 or less;
an additional layer penetrated by the plurality of male fasteners; and
a plurality of female fasteners, each female fastener affixed to one of the male fasteners.
