1. A surgical anchor system comprising:

  • an elongated member comprising a cavity that contains a material selected from one of a ferrous, ferromagnetic and magnetic materials;

    a surgical tool coupled to the elongated member and partially bounded by a portion of the elongated member, the surgical tool being coupled to the elongated member such that a distal end of the surgical tool can travel from a collapsed position to a non-collapsed position through a non-linear path; and

    an external casing comprising a magnetic stack;

    where the elongated member and the casing are configured to generate a coupling force of at least 500 grams at a distance of 10 millimeters between them; and

    where the elongated member is adapted to be positioned within a patient'"'"'s abdominal cavity using the casing positioning outside the patient'"'"'s abdominal cavity.
