1. A method of performing channelization in a wireless communication network, the wireless communication network including at least one base station that is communicatively coupled to at least one mobile terminal, the method comprising:

  • dividing a bandwidth of the wireless communication network into a plurality of zones at the base station;

    forming resource blocks at the base station to receive data symbols transmitted in the wireless communication network, wherein each resource block has a pilot design comprising a pilot symbol density and a pilot symbol pattern;

    combining a plurality of resource blocks at the base station to form a physical basic channel unit, wherein the pilot symbol density and the pilot symbol pattern are based on a number of resource blocks combined to form the physical basic channel unit;

    allocating the physical basic channel unit to one of the plurality of zones at the base station;

    performing a permutation on the physical basic channel unit to form a logical basic channel unit;

    providing a channel to communicatively couple the base station and the at least one mobile terminal; and

    receiving at the base station, from the at least one mobile terminal, via the channel, a message requesting access to the logical basic channel unit to transmit data.
