1. A regulation method for a separately excited synchronous machine having a stator and a rotor, the regulation method comprising:

  • providing reference values for stator and rotor currents, wherein at least one of the reference value for the stator current, the reference value for the rotor current, an auxiliary variable representing the reference value for the stator current, and an auxiliary variable representing the reference value for the rotor current is dependent on a predetermined reference torque, providing maximum values for stator and rotator currents, comparing at least one of the reference values with a corresponding one of the maximum values, andreducing the reference torque by a torque value in response to the at least one reference values reaching or exceeding the corresponding maximum value.
