1. A system comprising:

  • a data receiving device configured to receive a code; and

    a computing system connectable to an appliance and configured to monitor usage of the appliance, the appliance being configurable at least between an enabled state and a disabled state, and the usage of the appliance being determined by an amount of time,wherein the computing system comprises;

    one or more processors; and

    memory storing one or more programs to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs comprising instructions for;

    evaluating the usage of the appliance against a threshold permitted amount, wherein the threshold permitted amount determines an amount of time that the appliance can be in the enabled state before the appliance is placed in the disabled state,in response to a determination that the usage of the appliance is less than the threshold permitted amount, placing the appliance in the enabled state,in response to a determination that the usage of the appliance exceeds the threshold permitted amount, placing the appliance in the disabled state, andin response to a determination that the code is a valid code, adjusting the threshold permitted amount so that the amount of time that the appliance can be in the enabled state is altered.
