1. A method of isolating the cerebral circulation during a procedure, comprising the steps of:

  • advancing a catheter comprising a proximal sheath, an articulable distal sheat and a core member with a flexible coupler through the right subclavian artery, through the aorta, and into the left common carotid artery;

    opening a first filter within the brachiocephalic artery by proximally retracting the proximal sheath;

    articulating the articulable distal sheath and advancing a portion of the distal sheath into the left common carotid artery;

    opening a second filter within the left common carotid artery by advancing a core member carrying the distal filter through the distal sheath; and

    deflecting flexible coupler positioned within the left common carotid artery and proximal to the second filter and distal to a distal end of the articulable distal sheath.
