1. A method of coating a surface of a metal substrate, said method comprising:

  • providing the metal substrate;

    depositing a titanium alloy on the surface of the metal substrate; and

    growing a doped titania material on a first surface of the titanium alloy,wherein the titanium alloy is deposited on less than an entire area of the metal substrate.
