1. An electronic book reader, comprising:

  • a display for displaying an electronic book;

    an annotation subsystem configured to provide a user interface on the display, the user interface configured to enable a user to author annotation content and associate the annotation content with a corresponding portion of the electronic book;

    an input recognition subsystem, operably connected to the annotation subsystem, configured to recognize a specific portion of the annotation content as a command to create a message, the message being automatically addressed to a predetermined moderator assigned to the electronic book and including an automatically generated indication to the moderator of which portion of the electronic book was being viewed by the user when the message was created; and

    a collaboration subsystem, operably connected to the input recognition subsystem, configured to provide user controls to enable the user to create a body for the message and send the message to the predetermined moderator.
