Systems and methods for suppressing interference in a wireless communication system
First Claim
1. A method for suppressing interference from a data signal received at a receiving device, the receiving device having m receive antennas, the method comprising:
- receiving, at the receiving device, a training signal set transmitted from a first transmitting device, wherein the training signal set includes data for each transmit antenna of n transmit antennas included on the first transmitting device, wherein the training signal set includes information sufficient to determine a channel estimate corresponding to a communication channel between the first transmitting device and the receiving device, wherein the training signal set is included in a sounding packet transmitted from the first transmitting device to the receiving device, and wherein the data for each transmit antenna of the n transmit antennas comprises long training fields (LTFs) or extended long training fields (E-LTFs) that are included in a preamble portion of the sounding packet, wherein the sounding packet comprises,physical layer (PHY) information including the training signal set,information indicating that the sounding packet is to be processed by the receiving device for suppressing the interference at the receiving device, andmedia access control (MAC) information including i) a source address of the first transmitting device, and ii) an identifier for a basic service set (BSS) in which the first transmitting device is included;
determining the channel estimate based on the received training signal set, wherein the channel estimate includes an m-by-n description of the communication channel that is determined based on the data for each transmit antenna of the n transmit antennas; and
filtering, based on the determined channel estimate, the data signal received at the receiving device to suppress the interference in the data signal, the data signal having been transmitted from a second transmitting device that is different from the first transmitting device.

Abstract
Receiving devices and methods for suppressing interference from a data signal received at a receiving device are provided. The receiving device has m receive antennas, and a training signal set transmitted from a first transmitting device is received at the receiving device. The training signal set includes data for each transmit antenna of n transmit antennas included on the first transmitting device and includes information sufficient to determine a channel estimate corresponding to a communication channel between the first transmitting device and the receiving device. The channel estimate is determined based on the training signal set, where the channel estimate includes an m-by-n description of the communication channel. The data signal received at the receiving device is filtered based on the channel estimate to suppress the interference in the data signal. The data signal is transmitted from a second transmitting device that is different from the first transmitting device.
