1. A computing device, comprising:
- one or more processors;
a display element;
one or more cameras;
one or more additional sensors; and
memory including instructions that, upon being executed by the one or more processors, cause the computing device to;
obtain a first notification to be presented to a user of the computing device;
capture one or more first images using the one or more cameras;
determine a first gaze direction of the user relative to the display element based at least in part upon the one or more first images;
capture first sensor data using the one or more additional sensors;
determine whether the user is proximate to the computing device based at least in part upon the first sensor data;
present a visual indication associated with the first notification based at least in part upon determining that the first gaze direction of the user is directed to the display element and the user is proximate to the computing device according to the first sensor data;
obtain a second notification to be presented to the user;
capture one or more second images using the cameras;
determine a second gaze direction of the user relative to the display element based at least in part upon the one or more second images;
capture second sensor data using the one or more additional sensors;
determine whether the user is proximate to the computing device based at least in part upon the second sensor data; and
present at least one of a first aural indication associated with the second notification or a first tactile indication associated with the second notification based at least in part upon determining that the second gaze direction of the user is directed away from the display element and the user is proximate to the computing device according to the second sensor data.

Systems and approaches are provided for presenting incoming notifications to a computing device based on a determined context of the computing device. Various sensors of the device can be used to determine the context of the device with respect to a user, the state of the device itself, or the context of the device with respect to the environment in which the device is situated. obtaining a first notification to be presented on a computing device; determining a first gaze direction of a user relative to a display element of the computing device; presenting a visual indication associated with the first notification based at least in part upon determining that the first gaze direction of the user is directed to the display element; obtaining a second notification to be presented on the computing device; determining a second gaze direction of the user relative to the display element; and presenting at least one of a first aural indication associated with the second notification or a first tactile indication associated with the second notification based at least in part upon determining that the second gaze direction of the user is directed away from the display element. - View Dependent Claims (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15)
