Method and system for achieving space and time diversity gain
First Claim
1. A method for achieving space and time diversity gain, comprising:
- selectively assigning a first generalization code, corresponding to a primary pilot channel, to zero;
measuring signal strengths for each of a first plurality of multipath signals received on the primary pilot channel, when the first generalization code is assigned to zero;
selectively assigning a second generalization code, corresponding to a secondary pilot channel, to a non-zero value;
measuring signal strengths for each of a second plurality of multipath signals received on the secondary pilot channel, when the second generalization code is assigned to the non-zero value; and
combining a selected portion of the first and second plurality of received multipath signals based on the measured signal strengths.

Abstract
Certain aspects of a method and system for achieving space and time diversity gain are disclosed. Aspects of one method may include modifying a generalization code of at least one pilot channel, to measure signal strengths for each of a plurality of received multipath signals. A portion of the plurality of received multipath signals may be combined based on the measured signal strengths. The signal strengths of the plurality of received multipath signals may be measured on a primary pilot channel by assigning its generalization code to zero. The signal strengths of the plurality of received multipath signals on a secondary pilot channel may measured by assigning its generalization code to a non-zero value.
