Abstract

Method and apparatus for providing a data stream generator that generates a data stream associated with a monitored analyte level, and a radio frequency logic portion operatively coupled to the data stream generator, the radio frequency logic portion configured to generate a radio frequency data stream based on the data stream generated from the data stream generator, the radio frequency logic portion further including one or more finite state machines and a plurality of discrete digital logic circuits, the one or more finite state machines configured to control the plurality of digital logic circuits to generate the radio frequency data stream for wireless communication are provided. Systems and kits incorporating the same are also provided.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

an analyte sensor configured to provide a signal representative of a monitored analyte level; and

sensor electronics couplable to the analyte sensor to implement one or more finite state machines to receive the signal from the analyte sensor and to generate a data stream for transmission, the one or more finite state machines including a serializer state machine to transition between a first state and a second state, and for serially outputting data with the transition.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the one or more finite state machines includes a transmit state machine to control generating the data stream.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the sensor electronics includes multiplexing function to multiplex data packets associated with the monitored analyte level.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the sensor electronics further includes packet engine function, wherein the multiplexing and packet engine functions store the data packets prior to the generation of the data stream.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the one or more finite state machines of the sensor electronics includes an application specific integrated circuit.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the application specific integrated circuit is implemented as a single semiconductor chip.

The system of claim 1 further including a radio frequency communication component operatively coupled to the sensor electronics to wirelessly communicate the generated data stream to a remote location, wherein the radio frequency communication component includes an antenna configured to transmit radio frequency signals generated based on the data stream, wherein the sensor electronics include one or more of a clock circuit, a plurality of registers, or a counter, and further, wherein the sensor electronics implements a radio frequency logic finite state machine to operate in a predetermined clock domain.

8. The system of claim 1 wherein the sensor electronics is positionable on a user'"'"'s body with at least a portion of the analyte sensor disposed subcutaneously.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the analyte sensor includes a plurality of electrodes, wherein the plurality of electrodes include a working electrode comprising an analyte-responsive enzyme bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the analyte-responsive enzyme is chemically bonded to the polymer disposed on the working electrode.

11. A method, comprising:

generating a signal representative of a monitored analyte level from an analyte sensor;

operatively coupling sensor electronics to the analyte sensor, the sensor electronics configured to implement one or more finite state machines to receive the signal from the analyte sensor and to generate a data stream for transmission; and

providing a serializer state machine which transitions between a first state and a second state, and for serially outputting data with the transition.

12. The method of claim 11, further including controlling the generation of the data stream with a transmit state machine.

13. The method of claim 11, further including multiplexing data packets associated with the monitored analyte level with a data multiplexer.

14. The method of claim 13, further including storing the data packets prior to the generation of the data stream with a packet engine and the data multiplexer.

15. The method of claim 11 further including providing an application specific integrated circuit including the one or more finite state machines of the sensor electronics.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the application specific integrated circuit is implemented as a single semiconductor chip.

17. The method of claim 11, further including operatively coupling a radio frequency communication component to the sensor electronics to wirelessly communicate the generated data stream to a remote location;

providing an antenna configured to transmit radio frequency signals generated based on the data stream; and

configuring a radio frequency logic finite state machine for operation at a predetermined clock domain.

18. The method of claim 11, further including positioning the sensor electronics on a body of a user with at least a portion of the analyte sensor disposed subcutaneously.

19. The method of claim 11, wherein the analyte sensor includes a plurality of electrodes, wherein the plurality of electrodes include a working electrode comprising an analyte-responsive enzyme bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the analyte-responsive enzyme is chemically bonded to the polymer disposed on the working electrode.
