1. A method for receiving a received channel power indicator (RCPI) at an access point (AP), the method comprising:
- transmitting a wireless signal to a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU); and
receiving, from the WTRU, an RCPI parameter that is based on a measured radio frequency power measured over a data portion of a frame of the wireless signal at the WTRU, wherein the RCPI parameter is an 8-bit scalar value in a range between 0-220, wherein when the 8-bit scalar value is 0 , the RCPI parameter is less than −
110 dBm, and when the 8-bit scalar value is 220 the RCPI parameter is greater than 0 dBm.

Abstract
A received channel power indicator (RCPI) value is used as a measure of the received RF power in the selected channel, measured at the antenna connector. This parameter is a measure by the PHY sublayer of the received RF power in the channel measured over the PLCP preamble and over the entire received frame. RCPI is a monotonically increasing, logarithmic function of the received power level defined in dBm.
