1. A method of monitoring and storing EEG signals from a patient, the method comprising:

  • establishing a wireless communication link between an implanted unit and a communication module that is external to the patient'"'"'s body, wherein the implanted unit is coupled to an intracranial catheter having a distal end positioned inside the patient'"'"'s calvarium, the intracranial catheter containing one or more wires coupling the implanted unit to one or more intracranial recording electrodes and one or more wires coupling the implanted unit to one or more intracranial stimulating electrodes;

    monitoring EEG signals from the patient with the intracranial recording electrodes and the implanted unit substantially continuously while the wireless communication link is established;

    wirelessly transmitting in substantially real-time the monitored EEG signals from the implanted unit to the communication module that is external to the patient'"'"'s body substantially continuously while the wireless communication link is established;

    storing the EEG signals in a memory in the communication module;

    monitoring high frequency head vibration, muscle vibration, or speech production using an acoustic sensor mounted in the patient'"'"'s head and coupled to the implanted unit; and

    monitoring head movement and position with respect to gravity using an accelerometer mounted in the patient'"'"'s head and coupled to the implanted unit.
