L bracket for handheld device activators
First Claim
1. A housing for a handheld computing device, comprising:
- an outer shell having a base and a sidewall connected to a periphery of the base, wherein the sidewall has a port configured to receive a button, and wherein the outer shell has an inner surface and an outer surface; and
a backing plate connected to the inner surface of the outer shell, wherein the backing plate has a front edge and a rear edge, wherein the front edge is positioned a predetermined height above the base, wherein the rear edge is positioned adjacent to the base, wherein the backing plate is positioned adjacent to the sidewall having the port and is spaced apart from the sidewall by a predetermined distance to provide rigidity to the button to maintain consistent button behavior and to define a datum for positioning a battery within the housing, wherein, to ground a flexible circuit to a printed circuit board, at least a portion of the flexible circuit is routed from beneath the battery to a position on a front side of the battery, and wherein the backing plate includes an elongate recessed area extending between a raised portion and a bottom edge of the backing plate configured to allow the flexible circuit to be bent over a front and/or rear edge of the recessed area.
