Abstract

An electronic equipment enclosure includes a frame structure at least partially enclosed by a plurality of panels defining a compartment in which one or more electronic components are mounted and an exhaust air duct that is adapted to segregate hot air being exhausted from the compartment from cool air entering the compartment, thereby improving thermal management of the enclosure. The exhaust duct includes a lower duct section extending upward from the top panel of the compartment and an upper duct section telescoping upward from an upper end of the lower duct section. Each duct section includes four panels connected together by hinged corner fittings such that the section is collapsible. The upper duct section includes an outwardly flared portion.

Claims

1. An electronic equipment enclosure, comprising:

(a) a frame at least partially enclosed by a plurality of panels to define a compartment;

(b) one or more electronic components stored in the compartment;

(c) a vertical exhaust duct comprising;

(i) a first exhaust duct section arranged at a top panel disposed atop the frame, the first exhaust duct section being in fluid communication with an interior of the compartment; and

(ii) a second exhaust duct section vertically translatable relative to the first exhaust duct section for adjustment of a vertical height of the vertical exhaust duct;

(iii) wherein one of the first and second exhaust duct sections includes an aperture that is selectively alignable with any of a plurality of vertically arranged apertures of the other exhaust duct section so as to accommodate a fastener extending through both exhaust duct sections, thereby fixing the vertical height of the vertical exhaust duct; and

(d) a seal structure arranged along an upper edge of the vertical exhaust duct to close an air gap between the vertical exhaust duct and an adjacent structure.

2. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 1, wherein the seal structure is at least partially flexible so as to permit abutment against an uneven surface.

3. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 1, wherein the seal structure includes a pair of fingers that define a channel for receiving the upper edge of the vertical exhaust duct.

4. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 1, wherein the seal structure is arranged along an upper edge of the second exhaust duct section.

5. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 4, wherein the seal structure is comprised of a plurality of separate, adjoining seal components that, jointly, extend along the entire upper edge of the second exhaust duct section.

6. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 5, wherein the upper edge of the second exhaust duct section is outwardly flared.

7. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 6, wherein each of the seal components has angled ends in the form of a miter edge so that adjacent ones of the seal components fit together to minimize gaps therebetween.

8. An electronic equipment enclosure, comprising:

(a) a frame at least partially enclosed by a plurality of panels to define a compartment;

(b) one or more electronic components stored in the compartment;

(c) a vertical exhaust duct comprising;

(i) a first exhaust duct section arranged at a top panel disposed atop the frame, the first exhaust duct section being in fluid communication with an interior of the compartment; and

(ii) a second exhaust duct section vertically translatable relative to the first exhaust duct section for adjustment of a vertical height of the vertical exhaust duct;

(iii) wherein one of the first and second exhaust duct sections includes an aperture that is selectively alignable with any of a plurality of vertically-arranged apertures of the other exhaust duct section so as to accommodate a fastener extending through both exhaust duct sections, thereby fixing the vertical height of the vertical exhaust duct; and

(d) a seal structure arranged between the first and second exhaust duct sections to close an air gap therebetween.

9. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 8, wherein the seal structure is at least partially flexible so as to permit abutment against an uneven surface.

10. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 8, wherein the seal structure includes a pair of fingers that define a channel for receiving an edge of one of the first and second exhaust duct sections.

11. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 8, wherein the seal structure is arranged along a lower edge of the second exhaust duct section.

12. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 11, wherein the seal structure is comprised of a plurality of separate, adjoining seal components that, jointly, extend along the entire lower edge of the second exhaust duct section.

13. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 12, wherein each of the seal components is shaped so that adjacent ones of the seal components fit together to minimize gaps therebetween.

14. An electronic equipment enclosure, comprising:

(a) a frame at least partially enclosed by a plurality of panels to define a compartment;

(b) one or more electronic components stored in the compartment;

(c) a vertical exhaust duct comprising;

(i) a first exhaust duct section arranged at a top panel disposed atop the frame, the first exhaust duct section being in fluid communication with an interior of the compartment; and

(ii) a second exhaust duct section vertically translatable relative to the first exhaust duct section for adjustment of a vertical height of the vertical exhaust duct;

(iii) wherein one of the first and second exhaust duct sections includes an aperture that is selectively alignable with any of a plurality of vertically-arranged apertures of the other exhaust duct section so as to accommodate a fastener extending through both exhaust duct sections, thereby fixing the vertical height of the vertical exhaust duct; and

(d) a seal structure arranged along an upper edge of the vertical exhaust duct to close an air gap between the vertical exhaust duct and an adjacent structure, the seal structure including a pair of fingers that define a channel for receiving the upper edge of the vertical exhaust duct;

(e) wherein the seal structure is at least partially flexible so as to permit abutment against an uneven surface of the adjacent structure.

15. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 14, wherein the seal structure is arranged along an upper edge of the second exhaust duct section.

16. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 15, wherein the seal structure is comprised of a plurality of separate, adjoining seal components that, jointly, extend along the entire upper edge of the second exhaust duct section.

17. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 16, wherein the upper edge of the second exhaust duct section is outwardly flared.

18. The electronic equipment enclosure of claim 17, wherein each of the seal components has angled ends in the form of a miter edge so that adjacent ones of the seal components fit together to minimize gaps therebetween.
