1. Apparatus comprising a measurement system adapted to perform non-invasive measurements on a subject'"'"'s body, the measurement system comprising:

  • a measurement unit comprising;

    an acoustic unit configured to direct acoustic radiation toward a region of interest within the subject'"'"'s body; and

    an optical unit comprising;

    an illumination assembly that comprises at least one light emitter, and at least one first light guiding unit and at least one second light guiding unit,the at least one light emitter, the at least one first light guiding unit and the at least one second light guiding unit being optically coupled to each other via a first optical coupler; and

    a light detection assembly that comprises at least one light detector, the at least one second light guiding unit, and at least one third light guiding unit,the at least one light detector, the at least one second light guiding unit, and the at least one third light guiding unit being optically coupled to each other via a second optical coupler,the measurement unit being configured to provide a first operating condition such that;

    the acoustic unit directs acoustic radiation toward a region of interest within the subject'"'"'s body,a first light portion is transmitted from the at least one light emitter to the at least one light detector, by being transmitted along the at least one second light guiding unit, from the first optical coupler to the second optical coupler, without passing through tissue of the subject'"'"'s body, anda second light portion is transmitted from the at least one light emitter to the at least one light detector, by being transmitted from the at least one first light guiding unit to the at least one third light guiding unit via the region of interest within the subject'"'"'s body, such that scattered light of the second light portion that passes into the at least one third light guiding unit contains a tagged component corresponding to photons tagged by the acoustic radiation, and an untagged component corresponding to photons untagged by the acoustic radiation, anda control unit configured to decouple, from each other, the tagged component and the untagged component of the second light portion received at the at least one light detector, based upon an interaction between light of the first light portion and light of the second light portion received at the at least one light detector.
