1. An apparatus comprising:

  • a. a carrier;

    b. a mast pivotally mounted on said carrier for rotation upward to an erect drilling position, said mast comprising;

    i. front vertical support members and rear vertical support members; and

    ii. a mast top supported atop said front and rear vertical support members; and

    c. a drawworks mounted on said carrier to said rear of an erect mast, said drawworks having a drum with a drum rotation axis perpendicular to a drilling axis for winding and unwinding a drilling line on said drum;

    d. a crown block assembly mounted in a mast top for engaging said drilling line, wherein said crown block assembly comprises;

    i. a cluster of front sheaves mounted at a front of said mast top facing said drilling axis, said cluster of front sheaves comprising a first outermost sheave and a second outermost sheaves and at least one inboard sheave, all aligned on an axis in a plane perpendicular to said drilling axis and having a predetermined distance between grooves of adjacent front sheaves of the cluster of front sheaves;

    ii. a fast line sheave mounted on said drawworks side of said mast top, behind a first outermost front sheave and on an axis substantially parallel to said front sheave axis, for reeving said drilling line to said first outermost front sheave; and

    iii. a deadline sheave mounted on said drawworks side of said mast top, behind a second outermost front sheave and on an axis substantially parallel to said front sheave axis, for reeving said drilling line from said second outermost front sheave to an anchorage; and

    e. a traveling block assembly hung by said drilling line from said cluster of front sheaves of said crown block assembly, comprising;

    i. a frame;

    a cluster of traveling block sheaves comprising at least a first travelling block sheave, a first outermost traveling block sheave and a second outermost traveling block sheave, wherein said cluster of traveling block sheaves is supported in said frame and is one less in number than the cluster of front sheaves in said crown block assembly,1. said cluster of traveling block sheaves having a predetermined distance between grooves of adjacent traveling block sheaves and rotating on a common horizontal axis in a plane perpendicular to said drilling axis, and2. said traveling sheave axis being angled in said latter plane relative to said axis of said cluster of front sheaves such that said drilling line reeves downwardly from said groove in a first front sheave parallel to said drilling axis to engage said groove in said at least first traveling block sheave and reeves upwardly from said groove in said first traveling block sheave toward said second front sheave next adjacent said first front sheave at an up-going drilling line angle to said drilling axis effective according to said distance between said grooves of said first and second front sheaves to move said drilling line laterally relative to said front sheave axis and engage said groove of said second front sheave, each traveling block sheave of said cluster of traveling block sheaves receiving said drilling line parallel to said drilling axis and reeving said drilling line to each following front sheave at said up-going angle, andiii. said first outermost traveling block sheave receiving said drilling line, reeved downward from said first outermost front sheave of said crown block assembly parallel to said drilling axis, reeves said drilling line at said up-going angle to a next adjacent inboard front sheave, a latter inboard front sheave reeves said drilling line downward to a traveling block sheave next adjacent said first outermost traveling block sheave parallel to said drilling axis, said traveling block sheave next adjacent reeves said drilling line at said up-going angle to a front sheave next adjacent to said front sheave next adjacent to said first outermost front sheave, and so forth, for each successive traveling block sheave, until said second outermost traveling block sheave reeves said drilling line at said up-going angle to said second outermost front sheave,wherein said second outermost front sheave reeves said drilling line to said deadline sheave, and wherein said deadline sheave reeves said drilling line to said anchorage.
