Abstract

The present embodiments provide systems and methods for deploying at least a portion of a stent. In one embodiment, the system comprises a cannula having an outer surface, and at least one coiled member having proximal and distal ends and a plurality of turns disposed therebetween. One of the proximal and distal ends of the coiled member is secured to the outer surface of the cannula, and the other of the proximal and distal ends of the coiled member is unsecured relative to the outer surface of the cannula. A portion of a stent is looped around the unsecured end of the coiled member. Rotation of the cannula causes the portion of the stent to disengage from the coiled member. The end of the coiled member that is secured relative to the cannula is secured using at least two securing members.

Claims

1. A system for deploying at least a portion of a stent, the system comprising:

a cannula having an outer surface;

at least one coiled member having proximal and distal ends and a plurality of turns disposed therebetween;

a stent disposed over the cannula; and

a radial sleeve coupled in a non-rotating relationship to the outer surface of the cannula,

where the distal end of the coiled member is secured to the outer surface of the cannula and the proximal end of the coiled member is unsecured relative to the outer surface of the cannula, wherein at least a portion of the distal end of the coiled member securely engages the radial sleeve, and

where a portion of the stent is looped around the unsecured end of the coiled member and further is disposed within spacing between adjacent turns of the coiled member.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

a slot formed in the radial sleeve; and

a tail at the distal end of the coiled member, wherein the tail is secured within the slot of the radial sleeve.

3. The system of claim 1 further comprising a protective sleeve covering at least a distal end of the coiled member.

4. The system of claim 1, where the distal end of the coiled member that is secured relative to the cannula is additionally secured using at least one of an interference fit or a solder or weld.

5. A system for deploying at least a portion of a stent, the system comprising:

a cannula having an outer surface;

at least one coiled member having proximal and distal ends; and

a stent disposed over the cannula,

where one of the proximal and distal ends of the coiled member is secured to the outer surface of the cannula in a fixed relationship, and the other of the proximal and distal ends of the coiled member is unsecured relative to the outer surface of the cannula,

where a portion of the stent is looped around the unsecured end of the coiled member, and where the end of the coiled member that is secured relative to the cannula is secured to an outer surface of the cannula using at least two securing members.

The system of claim 5, where the coiled member has a plurality of turns disposed between the proximal and distal ends, and where the distal end of the coiled member is secured to the outer surface of the cannula and the proximal end of the coiled member is unsecured relative to the outer surface of the cannula, such that the portion of the stent is looped around the proximal end of the coiled member and further is disposed within a spacing between adjacent proximal turns of the coiled member in the delivery state.

7. The system of claim 6, where first and second turns of the plurality of turns comprise first and second inner diameters, respectively, wherein the first diameter is greater than the second diameter, and the first turn is disposed proximal to the second turn.

8. The system of claim 5, where the distal end of the coiled member comprises a tail that is substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the cannula.

9. The system of claim 5, further comprising a radial sleeve coupled in a secure relationship to the outer surface of the cannula, wherein at least a portion of the distal end of the coiled member securely engages the radial sleeve.

10. The system of claim 9, further comprising:

a slot formed in the radial sleeve; and

a tail at the distal end of the coiled member, wherein the tail is secured within the slot of the radial sleeve.

11. The system of claim 5 further comprising a protective sleeve covering at least a distal end of the coiled member.

12. The system of claim 5, where the end of the coiled member that is secured relative to the cannula is secured using an interference fit, at least one of a solder or weld, and at least one additional securing member.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the at least one additional securing member comprises a radial sleeve coupled in a fixed relationship to the outer surface of the cannula, wherein at least a portion of the distal end of the coiled member securely engages the radial sleeve.

14. A system for deploying at least a portion of a stent, the system comprising:

a cannula having an outer surface;

at least one coiled member having proximal and distal ends and a plurality of turns disposed therebetween;

a stent disposed on the cannula;

a radial sleeve coupled in a secure relationship to the outer surface of the cannula,

where the distal end of the coiled member is secured to the outer surface of the cannula and the proximal end of the coiled member is unsecured relative to the outer surface of the cannula, wherein at least a portion of the distal end of the coiled member securely engages the radial sleeve, and

where a portion of the stent is looped around the unsecured end of the coiled member and further is disposed within spacing between adjacent turns of the coiled member;

a slot formed in the radial sleeve; and

a tail at the distal end of the coiled member, wherein the tail is secured within the slot of the radial sleeve.

15. A system for deploying at least a portion of a stent, the system comprising:

a cannula having an outer surface;

at least one coiled member having proximal and distal ends; and

a stent disposed on the cannula,

where one of the proximal and distal ends of the coiled member is secured to the outer surface of the cannula, and the other of the proximal and distal ends of the coiled member is unsecured relative to the outer surface of the cannula,

where a portion of the stent is looped around the unsecured end of the coiled member, and where the end of the coiled member that is secured relative to the cannula is secured to an outer surface of the cannula using at least two securing members,

where the coiled member has a plurality of turns disposed between the proximal and distal ends, and where the distal end of the coiled member is secured to the outer surface of the cannula and the proximal end of the coiled member is unsecured relative to the outer surface of the cannula, such that the portion of the stent is looped around the proximal end of the coiled member and further is disposed within a spacing between adjacent proximal turns of the coiled member in the delivery state, and

where first and second turns of the plurality of turns comprise first and second inner diameters, respectively, wherein the first diameter is greater than the second diameter, and the first turn is disposed proximal to the second turn.

16. A system for deploying at least a portion of a stent, the system comprising:

a cannula having an outer surface;

at least one coiled member having proximal and distal ends; and

a stent disposed on the cannula,

where one of the proximal and distal ends of the coiled member is secured to the outer surface of the cannula, and the other of the proximal and distal ends of the coiled member is unsecured relative to the outer surface of the cannula,

where a portion of the stent is looped around the unsecured end of the coiled member, and where the end of the coiled member that is secured relative to the cannula is secured to an outer surface of the cannula using at least two securing members,

where the coiled member has a plurality of turns disposed between the proximal and distal ends, and where the proximal end of the coiled member is secured to the outer surface of the cannula and the distal end of the coiled member is unsecured relative to the outer surface of the cannula, such that the portion of the stent is looped around the distal end of the coiled member and further is disposed within a spacing between adjacent distal turns of the coiled member in the delivery state, and

where first and second turns of the plurality of turns comprise first and second inner diameters, respectively, wherein the first diameter is greater than the second diameter, and the first turn is disposed distal to the second turn.

17. A system for deploying at least a portion of a stent, the system comprising:

a cannula having an outer surface;

at least one coiled member having proximal and distal ends; and

a stent disposed on the cannula,

where one of the proximal and distal ends of the coiled member is secured to the outer surface of the cannula, and the other of the proximal and distal ends of the coiled member is unsecured relative to the outer surface of the cannula,

where a portion of the stent is looped around the unsecured end of the coiled member, and where the end of the coiled member that is secured relative to the cannula is secured to an outer surface of the cannula using at least two securing members;

a radial sleeve coupled in a secure relationship to the outer surface of the cannula, wherein at least a portion of the distal end of the coiled member securely engages the radial sleeve;

a slot formed in the radial sleeve; and

a tail at the distal end of the coiled member, wherein the tail is secured within the slot of the radial sleeve.

18. A system for deploying at least a portion of a stent, the system comprising:

a cannula having an outer surface;

at least one coiled member having proximal and distal ends and a plurality of turns disposed therebetween;

a stent disposed over the cannula; and

a radial sleeve coupled in a non-rotating relationship to the outer surface of the cannula,

where the proximal end of the coiled member is secured to the outer surface of the cannula and the distal end of the coiled member is unsecured relative to the outer surface of the cannula, wherein at least a portion of the proximal end of the coiled member securely engages the radial sleeve, and

where a portion of the stent is looped around the unsecured end of the coiled member and further is disposed within spacing between adjacent turns of the coiled member.
