1. A receiver system for identifying a location of a downhole tool assembly comprising a boring tool and a dipole magnetic field source that are moveable along a borepath, the receiver comprising:
- a first triaxial antenna to detect a point source dipole magnetic field from the dipole magnetic field source in three dimensions;
a second triaxial antenna to detect the point source dipole magnetic field from the dipole magnetic field source in three dimensions simultaneously with the first triaxial antenna; and
a processor to receive an antenna signal from each of the first triaxial antenna and the second triaxial antenna and using the antenna signals to determine the location of the downhole tool assembly comprising the boring tool and the dipole magnetic field source that are movable along the borepath;
wherein the first triaxial antenna and the second triaxial antenna are laterally displaced from each other a distance.

Abstract
A receiver system for identifying a location of a magnetic field source using at least two tri-axial antennas. The two tri-axial antennas are laterally displaced from one another and may also be held in a substantially horizontal plane. Each of the tri-axial antennas detects a dipole magnetic field from the magnetic field source in three dimension. The receiver system uses a processor to receive an antenna signal from each of the two tri-axial antennas to determine the location of the magnetic field source using the antenna signals.

8. A receiver system for identifying a location of a boring tool that is moved along a borepath, the boring tool comprising a transmitter that emits a point source dipole magnetic field from below ground, the receiver comprising:
-
two triaxial antennas to detect the point source dipole magnetic field from the transmitter; and a processor to receive an antenna signal from each of the two triaxial antennas, the antenna signals carrying data indicative of all three dimensions of the magnetic field, and to determine the location of the boring tool that is moved along the borepath using the three-dimensional data carried on the antenna signals; wherein the two triaxial antennas detect the dipole magnetic field from the transmitter when the antennas are held in a substantially horizontal plane. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15)
