1. A method of fusing tissue, comprising:

  • providing a surgical instrument having end effectors;

    positioning an everted end of a non-collagen biomaterial in abutting relation to an everted tissue end such that respective intimae of the everted non-collagen biomaterial and the tissue oppose one another, the everted end of the non-collagen biomaterial and the everted tissue end each having an inner surface and an outer surface, wherein the inner surface of the everted end of the non-collagen biomaterial and the inner surface of the everted tissue end are in abutting relation;

    grasping the non-collagen biomaterial and the tissue between the end effectors of the surgical instrument; and

    energizing the end effectors with radiofrequency energy to effectively fuse the non-collagen biomaterial and the tissue such that the non-collagen biomaterial and the tissue reform into a single, fused mass.
