- activating a camera module when an input by a user is not detected during a predetermined time;
determining whether a predetermined object is recognized using an image captured by the camera module;
delaying the mobile terminal from entering into a first power-saving mode when the predetermined object is recognized;
deactivating the camera module after the determining whether the predetermined object is recognized; and
entering a second power-saving mode upon a lapse of a second predetermined time period measured from entry into the first power-saving mode,wherein the second power-saving mode includes stopping displaying a display screen until a predetermined input is received and entering a lock screen mode.

Abstract
A method and apparatus for controlling an operation mode in a mobile terminal provides the mobile terminal to determine whether a predetermined time has elapsed, after a lapse of which it enters a first power-saving mode, and drive a camera module if the predetermined time has elapsed. Meanwhile, the mobile terminal determines whether a predetermined subject is recognized by the camera module, and then delays changing to the first power-saving mode if the predetermined subject is recognized, and enters the first power-saving mode if the predetermined subject is not recognized.
