1. A medical examination device comprising:

  • an illumination source, wherein the illumination source includes a lamp and a mirror rotatable between a first mirror position to a second mirror position, and configured such that whenever the mirror is in the first mirror position the mirror directs a beam of light from the lamp in a first beam direction to radiate a first tissue site and whenever the mirror is in the second mirror position the beam of light is transmitted in a second beam direction;

    a non-contacting ocular viewer configured to allow the operator of the examination device to directly visualize the first tissue site from the light emanating from the illuminated first tissue site;

    a movable contacting fiber optic probe that is selectably movable to various positions in relation to the ocular viewer and having a distal end that is visible through the ocular viewer when the light is directed in the first beam direction of the probe and including both an excitation fiber optic strand and a reception fiber optic strand, wherein the excitation fiber optic strand is configured to receives the beam of light directed in the second beam direction from the illumination source and transmits the received beam of light to radiate a second tissue at a site in contact with the distal end of the probe, and wherein the collection fiber optic strand is configured to receives the light emanating from the illuminated second tissue site; and

    a detector configured to receive the transmitted light emanating from the illuminated second tissue site and provides a spectral analysis of the second tissue site.
