1. A method of receiving an IP-based message from an initiator via a packet-switched (PS) network capable of communicating IP-based messages, a circuit-switched (CS) network capable of communicating non-IP-based messages, and a serving node in communication with the PS network and the CS network, the method comprising:

  • receiving a trigger message from the serving node over the CS network, the trigger message comprising a non-IP-based message that includes instructions for the receiver to initiate a connection to the PS network and instructions for the receiver to obtain an IP-based message from the serving node, the IP-based message being sent by the initiator and intended for receipt by the receiver;

    sending a request from the receiver for initiating a connection to the PS network;

    responsive to the trigger message, pulling the IP-based message from the serving node via the PS network after initiating the connection to the PS network.
