1. A data reporting system comprising:

  • at least one computing device, the computing device adapted to query an operational data set including data from separate source systems and render a databook interface based on at least one databook definition parameter;

    wherein the databook interface comprises;

    a plurality of palette regions, anda data display area including a plurality of rows, each displayed row corresponding to an individual record from the operational data set, with each row including a plurality of fields, each field corresponding to a column; and

    a graphical selection mechanism for specifying a composite evaluation view in which output of a composite data visualization mechanism is rendered based on comparing respective column values from a selected row in the data displayed in the data display area to the respective column values of the same column from at least some of the other rows displayed in a data view such that at least one actual ranking and at least one relative ranking of the column values of the selected row are shown simultaneously in visual form with respect to column-wide results for each respective column, the at least one actual ranking including a rank of a column value of the selected row out of a total number of rows, the at least one relative ranking including a percentage rank of the column value of the selected row; and

    wherein the interface provides a plurality of column headers and supports dragging and dropping of one or more column headers into the palette regions to define at least one definition parameter to thereby control how data from the operational data set is visualized in the databook; and

    wherein the at least one computing device is further adapted to;

    identify a user;

    when rendering the databook interface, determine whether the identified user should have access to one or more data items before displaying the one or more data items in the fields of the databook, with access rights determined based on a security control policy; and

    when the user should not have access to one or more data items based on the security control policy, hide a first portion of results from the query so that the results do not display the one or more data items in the databook;

    wherein the at least one computing device is further adapted to, when the user should not have access to one or more data items based on the security control policy, hide a second portion of results from the query, the second portion of results being dependent on values of the first portion of hidden results.
