1. A method of operating a high temperature fuel cell system comprising fuel cell stacks divided into at least a first group and a second group, each group including at least one of the fuel cell stacks, the method comprising:
- outputting substantially the same output power from the first and second groups, such that the first and second groups collectively output a predetermined output power; and
increasing a power output of the first group to a first output power, and decreasing a power output of the second group to a second output power that is less than the first output power;
wherein a sum of the first and second output powers is at least equal to the predetermined output power.
