Abstract

Methods, program products, and systems for task management based on travel distance are disclosed. In general, in one aspect, a method executed on a mobile device can include receiving a request to perform a task in a first subsystem (e.g., an application subsystem) of the mobile device. The request can indicate that the task is to be performed when the mobile device travels at least a threshold distance. The mobile device can determine a duration of silence. The mobile device can configure a second subsystem (e.g., a baseband operating system) of the mobile device to send a notification to the first subsystem notifying that the mobile device has traveled after at least the duration of silence. The first subsystem can receive the notification and determine that the threshold distance has been satisfied based on the received notification. The first subsystem can perform the task upon the determining.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

designating, by a mobile device, an estimated location of the mobile device as an initial location;

upon determining, by the mobile device, that a distance between an estimated current location of the mobile device and the initial location satisfies a threshold distance, invoking a reminder application;

upon invoking the reminder application, identifying, by the reminder application, an electronic document created by the mobile device at the initial location, wherein the electronic document is a digital image, an audio recording, or a video recording;

providing a user interface item for display on a display device of the mobile device, the user interface item including a prompt to organize the electronic document by putting the electronic document in a directory, and the user interface item being configured to, upon receiving a user input, cause the mobile device to create the directory designated to store the electronic document identified as being created at the initial location.

The method of claim 1, wherein identifying the electronic document comprises comparing a timestamp of the electronic document and an event log of the mobile device, the event log comprising records of events and corresponding timestamps, including a first timestamp of an application subsystem of the mobile device entering a power-saving mode and a second timestamp of the application subsystem being notified of a location change after a duration of silence.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein, before determining that the distance satisfies the threshold distance, a change of location identifiers as detected by the mobile device does not activate the application subsystem of the mobile device.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the location identifiers include cellular identifiers of a cellular communications network.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein determining that the distance satisfies the threshold distance comprises:

determining that a location identifier currently detected by the mobile device is different from a location identifier associated with the initial location;

determining the estimated current location based on the currently detected location identifier; and

determining that a linear distance between the estimated current location and the initial location satisfies the threshold distance.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface item is a virtual button displayed on a touch-sensitive surface of the mobile device.

7. A system, comprising:

a mobile device; and

a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions operable to cause the mobile device to perform operations comprising;

designating an estimated location of the mobile device as an initial location;

upon determining that a distance between an estimated current location of the mobile device and the initial location satisfies a threshold distance, invoking a reminder application;

upon invoking the reminder application, identifying, by the reminder application, an electronic document created by the mobile device at the initial location, wherein the electronic document is a digital image, an audio recording, or a video recording;

providing a user interface item for display, the user interface item including a prompt to organize the electronic document by putting the electronic document in a directory, and the user interface item being configured to, upon receiving a user input, cause the mobile device to create the directory designated to store the electronic document identified as being created at the initial location.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein identifying the electronic document comprises comparing a timestamp of the electronic document and an event log of the mobile device, the event log comprising records of events and corresponding timestamps, including a first timestamp of an application subsystem of the mobile device entering a power-saving mode and a second timestamp of the application subsystem being notified of a location change after a duration of silence.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein, before determining that the distance satisfies the threshold distance, a change of location identifiers as detected by the mobile device does not activate the application subsystem of the mobile device.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the location identifiers include cellular identifiers of a cellular communications network.

11. The system of claim 7, wherein determining that the distance satisfies the threshold distance comprises:

determining that a location identifier currently detected by the mobile device is different from a location identifier associated with the initial location;

determining the estimated current location based on the currently detected location identifier; and

determining that a linear distance between the estimated current location and the initial location satisfies the threshold distance.

12. The system of claim 7, wherein the user interface item is a virtual button displayed on a touch-sensitive surface of the mobile device.

13. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions operable to cause a mobile device to perform operations comprising:

designating an estimated location of the mobile device as an initial location;

upon determining that a distance between an estimated current location of the mobile device and the initial location satisfies a threshold distance, invoking a reminder application;

upon invoking the reminder application, identifying, by the reminder application, an electronic document created by the mobile device at the initial location, wherein the electronic document is a digital image, an audio recording, or a video recording;

providing a user interface item for display, the user interface item including a prompt to organize the electronic document by putting the electronic document in a directory, and the user interface item being configured to, upon receiving a user input, cause the mobile device to create the directory designated to store the electronic document identified as being created at the initial location.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein identifying the electronic document comprises comparing a timestamp of the electronic document and an event log of the mobile device, the event log comprising records of events and corresponding timestamps, including a first timestamp of an application subsystem of the mobile device entering a power-saving mode and a second timestamp of the application subsystem being notified of a location change after a duration of silence.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14, wherein, before determining that the distance satisfies the threshold distance, a change of location identifiers as detected by the mobile device does not activate the application subsystem of the mobile device.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the location identifiers include cellular identifiers of a cellular communications network.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein determining that the distance satisfies the threshold distance comprises:

determining that a location identifier currently detected by the mobile device is different from a location identifier associated with the initial location;

determining the estimated current location based on the currently detected location identifier; and

determining that a linear distance between the estimated current location and the initial location satisfies the threshold distance.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein the user interface item is a virtual button displayed on a touch-sensitive surface of the mobile device.
