1. A backup SIP server for an uninterruptible connection of an enterprise network using a session initiation protocol (SIP), the enterprise network including a main site and at least one remote site, the main site including a main SIP server and the remote site including said backup SIP server, the main and remote sites exchanging SIP signaling messages via an Internet protocol link through an Internet protocol network, the backup SIP server comprising:

  • means for detecting whether the Internet protocol link is not working, and enabling use of a backup SIP signaling link to the main site via a SIP gateway and a public telephone network when the Internet protocol link is not working;

    means for transferring the SIP signaling messages on the backup SIP signaling link;

    means for, when receiving a registration request from a terminal of the remote site while the Internet protocol link is not working, registering the terminal locally to the backup SIP server and forwarding the registration request to the main site via the backup SIP signaling link; and

    means for storing policies defining services, supplied by the main SIP server, that are compatible with said backup SIP signaling link, and for altering a content of at least one field in each SIP signaling message addressed to the main SIP server before transferring the SIP signaling messages to the backup SIP signaling link, the content being altered according to said policies.
