1. A method comprising:

  • by one or more computer systems of a social-networking system, identifying a first user viewing video content on a first display device;

    by one or more computer systems of the social-networking system, identifying the video content being viewed on the first display device by the first user;

    by one or more computer systems of the social-networking system, determining a second display device associated with the first user;

    by one or more computer systems of the social-networking system, accessing chat messages from second users, wherein the chat messages are associated with the video content;

    by one or more computer systems of the social-networking system, applying an automatic filter to the chat messages to identify those that are of particular relevance to the first user; and

    by one or more computer systems of the social-networking system, sending one or more instructions to the second display device to display the chat messages, as filtered, to the first user;

    wherein a chat message that is of particular interest to the first user, as identified according to the automatic filter;

    is associated with a second user who is a friend of the first user as determined from a social graph of the social-networking system;

    is associated with a second user who has a level of affinity with the first user that is at or above a particular affinity threshold, as determined from a social graph of the social-networking system;

    has received a number of endorsements from second users that is at or above a particular endorsement threshold;

    orhas received a number of replies from second users that is at or above a particular reply threshold.
