Variable lumen output and color spectrum for LED lighting
First Claim
1. A system for dynamically adjusting a light output ofan LED lighting system, comprising:
- an arrangement of light-emitting diodes (LEDs);
at least one driver configured to drive the arrangement of LEDs;
at least one heat sink configured to dissipate thermal energy produced by the LEDs;
a wireless interface configured for connecting with a mobile device;
a configuration module configured to receive configuration instructions through the wireless interface from a light monitoring device in a remote location relative to the arrangement of LEDs,wherein the configuration instructions include lighting characteristics for each of a plurality of time periods that each specify at least a lighting intensity, light color information, and a lighting color temperature;
a driver control module configured to control the at least one driver to cause the arrangement of LEDs to emit light having the specified intensity and color temperature during each of the plurality of time periods; and
a power adjustment module configured to modify a current flow to maintain a thermal temperature associated with the LED lighting system below a maximum value, the power adjustment module comprising;
a temperature module configured to determine a temperature associated with the LED lighting system and compare it with the threshold level;
a current module configured to set a current flow from the at least one LED driver to the arrangement of LEDs based on the determined temperature being below the threshold level; and
a threshold module configured to decrease the current flow from the at least one LED driver to the arrangement of LEDs based on the determined temperature being within a predetermined range of the threshold level.

Abstract
An adjustable LED lighting system may allow for a variable lumen output, an estimation of remaining life expectancy, and/or control of lighting intensity, color temperature, and/or wavelength distribution. An LED lighting system may be capable of mimicking externally monitored, remote controlled, pre-defined, user-selected, or other lighting conditions. An LED lighting system may allow for a variable lumen output by monitoring a temperature associated with one or more LEDs and increasing or decreasing current flow to maintain the monitored temperature below a maximum temperature. The remaining life may be estimated based on historical runtime and temperature data.
