1. A method of operating a system that includes a plurality of electrodes and a neurostimulation device coupled to the plurality of electrodes, the method comprising:

  • actuating a programming selection control element on a user interface;

    selecting one of different programming modes for the neurostimulation device in response to the actuation of the programming selection control element;

    defining a first electrode configuration corresponding to the first programming mode;

    actuating the programming selection control element on the user interface again;

    selecting the second programming mode in response to the actuation of the programming selection control element again;

    defining a second electrode configuration based on the first electrode configuration in response to the selection of the second programming mode, the second electrode configuration corresponding to the second programming mode;

    generating a stimulation parameter set corresponding to the second electrode configuration; and

    conveying electrical energy from the neurostimulation device to the plurality of electrodes in accordance with the stimulation parameter set.
