1. A method comprising:
- displaying a virtual musical instrument (VMI) on a touch-sensitive graphical user interface (GUI), the VMI including;
a swipe region associated with an assigned chord, the swipe region having an upper swipe region and a lower swipe region; and
one or more virtual strings crossing the swipe region, the one or more virtual strings each being associated with a note of the assigned chord;
receiving an input corresponding to a swipe gesture across the one or more virtual strings;
playing a chord that corresponds to an upward strum on the virtual strings in response to a detecting a swipe gesture originating in the upper swipe region; and
playing a chord that corresponds to an downward strum along the virtual strings in response to a detecting a swipe gesture originating in the lower swipe region, wherein the played chord includes the notes associated with the swiped virtual strings.

Abstract
Musical performance/input systems, methods, and products can accept user inputs via a user interface, generate, sound, store, and/or modify one or more musical tones. The user interface can present one or more regions corresponding to related chords. A set of related chords and/or a set of rhythmic patterns are generated based on a selected instrument and a selected style of music. The related chords can be modified via one or more effects units.

11. A method comprising:
-
displaying a virtual musical instrument (VMI) on a touch-sensitive graphical user interface (GUI), the VMI including; a swipe region associated with an assigned chord, the swipe region having an edge portion associated with a muting effect; and one or more virtual strings crossing the swipe region, the one or more virtual strings each being associated with a note of the assigned chord; receiving an input corresponding to a swipe gesture along the edge portion of the swipe region and across one or more of the virtual strings; determining a chord to be played based on the one or more virtual strings that were swiped in the swipe gesture; applying the muting effect to the determined chord; and playing the muted determined chord. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15)
