1. A crossbow comprising:
- an elongated frame having a forward end portion; and
a foot stirrup secured to the forward end portion, the foot stirrup having first and second portions, the first portion being configured to extend forward of the elongated frame to the second portion, the second portion being configured to extend downwardly from the first portion,wherein the first portion of the foot stirrup has first and second legs which extend forward of the elongated frame to the second portion and which are separated from one another,whereby the downwardly extending second portion of the foot stirrup provides increased surface area to stabilize the crossbow during a cocking operation, and whereby the downwardly extending second portion of the foot stirrup is configured to act as a bipod when the crossbow is aimed and fired.

The foot stirrup has first and second portions. The first portion of the foot stirrup is configured to extend forward of the elongated frame to the second portion. The second portion of the foot stirrup is configured to extend downwardly from the first portion. The downwardly extending second portion of the foot stirrup provides increased surface area to stabilize the crossbow during a cocking operation. The downwardly extending second portion of the foot stirrup is further configured to act as a bipod when the crossbow is aimed and fired.

22. A foot stirrup for a crossbow comprising:

a first portion which is securable to an elongated frame of a crossbow, the first portion configured to extend forward from, and in general alignment with, the elongated frame of the crossbow; and a second portion which extends downwardly from the first portion to a base thereof, wherein the base of the second portion has a width which is greater than a width of the first portion; wherein the first portion of the foot stirrup has first and second legs which extend forward of the elongated frame to the second portion and which are separated from one another.

23. A method of aiming a crossbow comprising the steps of:

a) providing a crossbow having an elongated frame, a grip, and a foot stirrup, the elongated frame having a forward end portion, the grip being associated with the elongated frame rearward of the forward end portion of the elongated frame, the foot stirrup being secured to the forward end portion, the foot stirrup having first and second portions, the first portion being configured to extend forward of the elongated frame to the second portion, the second portion being configured to extend downwardly from the first portion to a base thereof, wherein the first portion of the foot stirrup has first and second legs which extend forward of the elongated frame to the second portion and which are separated from one another; b) positioning the base of the second portion of the foot stirrup against a surface, thereby allowing the surface to support a forward weight of the crossbow; c) supporting at least a portion of a rearward weight of the crossbow by the grip; and d) manipulating the grip to change one or both of a lateral or longitudinal direction of the elongated frame, thereby positioning the forward end portion of the elongated frame in a desired direction.

24. A method of cocking a crossbow comprising the steps of:

a) providing a crossbow having an elongated frame, first and second limbs, a bowstring, and a foot stirrup, the elongated frame having a forward end portion, the first and second limbs secured to the elongated frame, the bowstring extending between the first and second limbs and being configured to move between a forward rest position and a rearward cocked position, the foot stirrup being secured to the forward end portion, the foot stirrup having first and second portions, the first portion being configured to extend forward of the elongated frame to the second portion, the second portion being configured to extend downwardly from the first portion to a base thereof, wherein the first portion of the foot stirrup has first and second legs which extend forward of the elongated frame to the second portion and which are separated from one another; b) positioning the second portion of the foot stirrup flat against a surface; c) placing a user'"'"'s foot onto the second portion of the foot stirrup in order to stabilize the foot stirrup against the surface; and d) moving the bowstring from its forward rest position to its rearward cocked position. - View Dependent Claims (25)
