1. A strain sensor comprising:

  • a substrate which is flexible along a first axis;

    a CNT film which is made of a plurality of CNT fibers aligned in an orientation direction which is transverse to the first axis and which are formed on a surface of the substrate, the CNT film, and with it the contact between the CNT fibers, being expanded or compressed along the first axis as the substrate is expanded or compressed along the first axis;

    a pair of electrodes which are formed at opposite ends of the CNT film along the first axis; and

    a protective coat, made of a water based emulsion containing resin, protecting the CNT film, wherein the protective coat is placed in contact with at least part of the CNT fibers on the surface of the CNT film but is not impregnated in the CNT film, andwherein the plurality of CNT fibers includes a first group of CNT fibers and a second group of CNT fibers, and the second group of CNT fibers is arranged over the first group of CNT fibers, such that the plurality of CNT fibers forms a two-sided beam structure, the first group of CNT fibers being located at one side of the beam structure, the second group of CNT fibers being located at another side of the beam structure, and the sides of the beam structure being opposed to each other in a direction that is perpendicular to the first axis.
