Method and apparatus for increasing therapy compliance
First Claim
1. A positive airway pressure device configured to improve patient compliance by providing an improved user-friendliness and by reducing cognitive dissonance as a barrier to therapy, the positive airway pressure device comprisinga housing having a substantially square profile and a volume less than 0.008 m3, the housing comprising an outer surface, the outer surface comprising a front wall, a rear wall, a first side wall extending between the front wall and the rear wall and a second side wall extending between the front wall and the rear wall;
- a control knob and a control display positioned on the front wall, the control display being positioned directly above the control knob, the control display comprising a clock display;
a humidification compartment having a substantially round profile disposed within the housing, an upper portion of the humidification compartment being covered by a removable lid, the lid being removably attached to the housing and defining a handhold location for carrying of the positive airway pressure device, the humidification compartment being adapted to receive a humidifier chamber, the humidifier chamber being an open top container with a heat-conducting surface and fully enclosed within the humidification compartment except for the open top of the humidification chamber;
an airflow outlet extending from one of the front wall, the first side wall, the second side wall and the rear wall, the airflow outlet being pivotable or rotatable relative to the housing, the airflow outlet being connected to one of the humidification chamber and one of the front wall, the first side wall, the second side wall and the rear wall;
an internal power supply being substantially enclosed within a substantially rectangular cuboid sub-housing disposed in a rear portion within the housing, the sub-housing integrated as part of the rear wall of the housing and including a first sub-housing wall having a first surface area, a second sub-housing wall having a second surface area, and a third sub-housing wall having a third surface area, the internal power supply comprising a power supply component board configured to be connected to a mains voltage source with a power cord; and
a fan unit disposed in a recess beneath the humidification compartment, an inlet to the fan unit being fluidly connected to ambient air and extending through at least one of the front wall, the first side wall, the second side wall, and the rear wall, the fan unit configured to cause air from atmosphere to pass over the first surface area of the first sub-housing wall, the second surface area of the second sub-housing wall, and the third surface area of the third sub-housing wall.
