1. A method comprising:
- receiving audio information at a listener'"'"'s first consumer electronic device, the received audio information having been provided by a content distributor as part of entertainment content, the received audio information including at least first and second tracks, the first track conveying audio for listener consumption, the second track conveying a noise-like digital watermark signal encoded with auxiliary information for use by a second consumer electronic device to obtain information related to the entertainment content, for presentation to the listener, at election of the listener, the second track not conveying audio for hearing by the listener;
in said first consumer electronic device, receiving a control signal from a listener-operated control that sets a ratio between the first and second tracks; and
rendering the audio information from the first and second tracks simultaneously in accordance with said ratio.

Abstract
An audio watermark signal is associated audio host signal, but is provided separately. When the audio host signal is rendered, a user can control whether—and how strongly—the watermark signal is also rendered. The specification details a great variety of other technologies —most relating to audio and image content, and/or portable devices (e.g., smartphones).

3. An apparatus comprising:
-
a memory storing entertainment content information, the entertainment content information including data corresponding to at least first and second tracks of audio information; and a rendering portion for simultaneously rendering the first and second tracks of information to one or more loudspeakers, the rendering portion including a control operable by an end-user listener to set a level at which the second track should be rendered relative to the first track; wherein the second track of information represents a noise-like digital watermark signal for enabling a second apparatus to obtain information related to the entertainment content, for presentation to the listener, at election of the listener, and does not represent audio content for hearing by the end-user listener. - View Dependent Claims (4, 5)

7. An apparatus comprising:
-
a memory storing entertainment content information, the entertainment content information including data corresponding to at least first and second tracks of audio information; and a rendering portion for simultaneously rendering the first and second tracks of audio information to one or more loudspeakers, the rendering portion including a control operable by an end user listener to set a level at which the second track should be rendered relative to the first track; wherein the second track of information represents a noise-like digital watermark signal enabling a second apparatus to obtain information related to the entertainment content, for presentation to the listener, at election of the listener, and the first track represents audio content for listener consumption without a noise-like digital watermark signal; wherein said apparatus enables the end user listener to select rendering of the content information without a watermark, if desired. - View Dependent Claims (8)
