1. An apparatus for manufacturing a stacked integrated component media insert for an ophthalmic lens from a plurality of thin component layers, the apparatus comprising:
- a rigid body in a generally conical shape; and
a plurality of exposed, vertically spaced and inwardly offset shelves on the surface of the rigid body that provide a series of non-overlapping stepped supports to orient and support the thin component layers in a partially overlapping configuration for consolidation into a stacked integrated component media insert having a three-dimensional shape designed to fit within a structure of an ophthalmic lens, wherein the plurality of shelves comprises a first shelf and a second shelf spaced above and inwardly offset from said first shelf, wherein the second shelf has a height above the first shelf approximately equal to the thickness of the thin component layers placed upon the first shelf and a width that is less than the width of the thin component layer placed on said second shelf, such that said thin component layer on said second shelf overlies and is partially supported by the thin component layer placed on said first shelf.

Abstract
This invention discloses methods and apparatus for providing a media insert with an energy source to an ophthalmic lens. The energy source is capable of powering a component included within the ophthalmic lens. In some embodiments, an ophthalmic lens is cast molded from a silicone hydrogel and the component includes an electro-optical lens portion.
