1. A base unit installed in a vehicle comprising:
- a vehicle communication module for communicating with a controller, the controller monitoring at least one operating parameter of the vehicle,a transceiver; and
a processor configured to receive the at least one operating parameter of the vehicle from the vehicle communication module and process the at least one operating parameter to detect an event, wherein the event is used for driver compliance logging;
wherein the transceiver is configured to transmit the event to at least one external device,wherein the at least one operating parameter of the vehicle is a vehicle speed and wherein the processor is configured to calculate a relative odometer reading based on vehicle speed information obtained from the vehicle communication module on the base unit,wherein the external device is configured to generate a graphical user interface that allows a user to input an absolute odometer offset value, andwherein the processor uses the absolute odometer offset value to calculate an absolute odometer reading based, at least in part, on the vehicle speed information obtained from a communication interface on the base unit and the absolute odometer offset value.

12. A method of determining compliance data based, at least in part, on at least one operating parameter of a vehicle and identification information associated with a driver of the vehicle, the method comprising:

receiving, by a processor, the at least one operating parameter of the vehicle, wherein the at least one operating parameter of the vehicle is a vehicle speed, detecting, by the processor, at least one event based on the at least one operating parameter of the vehicle; receiving the identification information for the driver of the vehicle associated with the vehicle; determining, by the processor, compliance logging based, at least in part, on the detected event and the identification information; transmitting information based on the detected event to an external device; using the processor, calculating a relative odometer reading based on vehicle speed information; obtaining an absolute odometer offset value from a user using a graphical user interface; and calculating, using the processor, an absolute odometer reading based, at least in part, on the vehicle speed information and the absolute odometer offset value. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18)
