Abstract

An apparatus determining a weighting function for line prediction coding coefficients quantization converts a linear prediction coding (LPC) coefficient of an input signal into one of a line spectral frequency (LSF) coefficient and an immitance spectral frequency (ISF) coefficient and determines a weighting function associated with one of an importance of the ISF coefficient and importance of the LSF coefficient using one of the converted ISF coefficient and the converted LSF coefficient.

Claims

1. A quantizing apparatus comprising:

a coefficient conversion unit configured to obtain a line spectral frequency (LSF) coefficient or an immitance spectral frequency (ISF) coefficient from a linear prediction coding (LPC) coefficient of an input signal including at least one of a speech signal and an audio signal;

a weighting function determination unit configured to determine a magnitude weighting function, based on a magnitude of a spectral bin corresponding to a frequency of the ISF coefficient or the LSF coefficient, to determine a frequency weighing function based on frequency information from the ISF coefficient or the LSF coefficient, and to determine a weighting function by combining the magnitude weighting function and the frequency weighting function; and

a quantization unit configured to quantize the ISF coefficient or the LSF coefficient using the determined weighting function,

wherein the magnitude of the spectral bin is obtained by performing transformation on the input signal.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the frequency information is based on a perceptual model of the input signal.

3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the perceptual model is based on a bark scale.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the frequency information is based on an encoding mode of the input signal.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the frequency information is based on a formant distribution corresponding to an encoding mode of the input signal, the encoding mode being determined on a basis of signal characteristics.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the frequency information is based on a bandwidth of the input signal.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the weighting function is based on the spectral magnitude corresponding to the ISF coefficient or the LSF coefficient and at least one neighboring spectral magnitude.

8. A quantizing method comprising:

obtaining a line spectral frequency (LSF) coefficient or an immittance spectral frequency (ISF) coefficient from a linear prediction coding (LPC) coefficient of an input signal including at least one of a speech signal and an audio signal;

determining a magnitude weighting function, based on a magnitude of a spectral bin corresponding to a frequency of the ISF coefficient or the LSF coefficient;

determining a frequency weighting function based on frequency information from the ISF coefficient or the LSF coefficient;

determining a weighting function by combining the magnitude weighting function and the frequency weighting function; and

quantizing the ISF coefficient or the LSF coefficient using the determined weighting function,

wherein the magnitude of the spectral bin is obtained by performing transformation on the input signal.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the frequency information is based on a perceptual model of the input signal.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the perceptual model is based on a bark scale.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the frequency information is based on an encoding mode of the input signal.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein the frequency information is based on a formant distribution corresponding to an encoding mode of the input signal, the encoding mode being determined on a basis of signal characteristics.

13. The method of claim 8, wherein the frequency information is based on a bandwidth of the input signal.

14. The method of claim 8, wherein the weighting function is based on the spectral magnitude corresponding to the ISF coefficient or the LSF coefficient and at least one neighboring spectral magnitude.
