1. An apparatus for forming a curvilinear void in bony structure comprising:

  • a handle comprising a rotatable element and a handle spring;

    a drill shaft extending from a distal end of the handle, the drill shaft having a flexible portion at a distal end of the drill shaft;

    a cutting tip located at a distal end of a torqued tube, the cutting tip adapted to form the curvilinear void by simultaneous rotation and curvilinear translation of the cutting tip upon rotation of the rotatable element;

    a feed screw;

    a compression spring, wherein the compression spring is positioned distally from the feed screw and nearer to the distal end of the drill shaft; and

    a band coupled at a distal end proximate to the cutting tip and at a proximal end to the compression spring that is different from the handle spring,wherein the torqued tube is configured to provide rotation of the cutting tip, wherein the torqued tube is configured to go through the drill shaft and the feed screw, andwherein, in an initial configuration, the flexible portion of the drill shaft is pretensioned to have a predetermined amount of flex.
