1. A device, comprising:
- a guide tube that is hollow and includes a driving end and a lancet end and a longitudinal axis extending between the driving end and lancet end;
a first magnet and a second magnet positioned on opposite sides along a length of the longitudinal axis of the guide tube;
a third magnet positioned within the guide tube;
a lancet housing coupled to an end of the third magnet disposed towards the lancet end; and
a lancet attached to an end of the lancet housing disposed towards the lancet end;
wherein a like pole of the first magnet and a like pole of the second magnet are configured to face one another in a repulsive interaction, and wherein a like pole of the third magnet is configured to face towards the lancet end.

Abstract
Embodiments of the present invention provide magnetic lancet devices and methods for driving a lancet. For example, a magnetic lancet device may include a driving mechanism having a plurality of magnets and a lancet coupled to the driving mechanism. A magnetic interaction between the plurality of magnets is configured to drive the lancet from an engaged position to a penetrating position.

24. A method of driving a lancet, comprising:

providing a device that includes; a guide tube that is hollow and includes a driving end and a lancet end and a longitudinal axis extending between the driving end and lancet end; a first magnet and a second magnet positioned on opposite sides along a length of the longitudinal axis of the guide tube, the first and second magnets having magnetic axes extending between their north and south poles that are generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the guide tube; a third magnet positioned within the guide tube; a lancet housing coupled to the end of the third magnet disposed towards the lancet end; a longitudinal driving member coupled to an end of the third magnet disposed towards the driving end, the longitudinal driving member configured to be partially disposed within the guide tube; and a lancet coupled to an end of the third magnet disposed towards the lancet end; manually pushing the longitudinal driving member towards the lancet end of the guide tube, causing the third magnet and the lancet to move from an engaged position between the driving end of the guide tube and the first and second magnets to a position nearer to the lancet end of the guide tube; and allowing a repulsive force of the first magnet and the second magnet to drive the third magnet and the lancet to a penetrating position, the lancet in the penetrating position protruding from the lancet end of the guide tube. - View Dependent Claims (25, 26)

27. A method of driving a lancet, comprising:

providing a device that includes; a guide tube that is hollow and includes a driving end and a lancet end and a longitudinal axis extending between the driving end and lancet end; a pair of repulsive magnets positioned on opposite sides along a length of the longitudinal axis of the guide tube and generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the guide tube, like poles of the pair of repulsive magnets facing one another in a repulsive interaction; a carrier magnet positioned coaxially within the guide tube, the carrier magnet including a like pole that is disposed towards the lancet end and corresponds to the like poles of the pair of repulsive magnets; and a lancet coupled to an end of the carrier magnet disposed towards the lancet end; manually pushing the carrier magnet and the lancet from an engaged position towards the lancet end of the guide tube, the carrier magnet in the engaged position being disposed between the driving end of the guide tube and the pair of repulsive magnets; and allowing a repulsive force of the pair of repulsive magnets to drive the carrier magnet and the lancet to a penetrating position, the lancet in the penetrating position protruding from the lancet end of the guide tube. - View Dependent Claims (28, 29)
